I am trained in a range of healing modalities. In particular I have distilled these into a fusion treatment I call hands on and spiritual healing and the ‘Unique Massage Island Experience’. This one hour treatment has expanded to a 2025 program of day long workshops and five day retreats.
As a child my mum would take me to her yoga classes. I loved it and have done yoga most of my life. In due time, when I turned 40 I decided to look a little deeper into my practice. To this day I still enjoy my yoga practice, but it mostly centres around meditation these days. And one of the most valuable take aways from my yoga teacher training was the art of breathing.
Our workshop and retreat program includes special guest who are vedic meditation teachers to still the mind. In like manner, we also offer sound healing and emotional freedom tapping techniques.
Our program differs from yoga retreats available on the island. We want to ensure those new to meditation feel welcome and that our program is accessible to over 50s. Whether you have a regular wellbeing practice or are just beginning this is an opportunity to indulge in what you might not have had time to explore, but are interested in experiencing.
Breath-work seems to be a popular practice of many young people these days in pursuit of well being and peek experiences. My experience of breath-work is that the focus is on the breath in. Different for me, is focus on the breath out. In particular learning to breath out completely, inclines one to take a fuller breathe in. In the same way, breathing out completely helps you to let go of thoughts and worry that are holding you back.
Breathing in deeply is so very important for relaxation, blood pressure and heart rate, reduces stress, improves body function and to quote AI when asked ‘hat the benefits of deep breathing are; “reduces hot flushes”.
Given these points, it is fortunate indeed that most of my clients for the hands-on-healing work are for women over 50. In each treatment, I remind people to breath deeply. It is such a vital tool at our disposal for managing stress, anxiety and pain.
In particular, a beautiful and simple thing you can do heal from a broken heart is:
Stretch your arms out far and wide, and breadth in deeply and consistently filling your belly first with air then your ribcage and chest
Suspend the breath and hold all that life giving oxygen into your body
Breathe out for longer than your breath in was, and make sure you totally let go. There is a big metaphor there in that the more we let go of the past the more we can breathe life in
Start with three morning and night and you’re on your way to opening yourself up to new possibility.
Yoga teacher training, that I did almost 20 years ago taught me about the chakras, and how each of the seven primary chakras function and how they work and what the symptoms are of them being out of balance or blocked.
Chakras are energy centres that basically run along the spine and head, aligning with the nervous and endocrine system of the body. They are like information transfer systems of our thoughts, feelings and physical functioning. The word chakra, originally spelt chakra comes from Sanskrit meaning circle. To have them running smoothly is to invest in personal transformation.
You can enjoy guided chakra visualisation, meditation and sound healing at Stradbroke Island one-day and five-day Retreats.
