
I have had the deep privilege of painting Gheebulum, Uncle Bob Anderson who is a Ngugi Aboriginal elder and traditional owner of the Quandamooka which is Moreton Bay and North Stradbroke Island, Australia. We have sat for many hours discussing amongst other things, how sand mining has been a big part of North Stradbroke Islands history. But with minings end, Uncle Bob talked with me about how the spirits of the land will be rejoicing and able to rejuvenate the land once more.u00a0
nI sensed this old Uncle’s excitement, and I set an intention to make visible the giant spirit people walking the earth once more. I started to play around with some mixed media and computer programs to depict the light codes that the spirits of the land brought with them, healing the earth andu00a0 ‘walking Country once more’.
nThese artworks were part of a gallery exhibition at which Gheebulum spoke about healing the earth after minings end.u00a0 Eldest grandson of Oodgeroo of the Tribe Noonuccal, Raymond Walker read his grandmothers poem Glad Tomorrow, offering a blessing song and Garinga da Gana.
